THE EAST ANGLIAN STORYTELLING FESTIVAL COMES TO CRESSING TEMPLE BARNS

There will be a new kind of celebration at Cressing Temple Barns next year – a festival of storytelling.

On June 6th 2020, the East Anglian storytelling festival will be happening in the grounds of this site rich with ancient history, near Witham, Essex.  The one-day festival will take place in its 13th century barns, and around the grounds, including the Tudor walled garden.

The festival will feature some of the best-loved performers from around the country, as well as the cream of East Anglia’s own talent.  The day will feature story walks, workshops, games for children, chances for anyone to tell a story, as well as, in the evening, longer and enthralling performances of story theatre for adults.

This is the fifth festival put on by the East Anglian Fabulation, a group of storytellers committed to spreading the word about storytelling, a traditional art-form that is gaining a cult-following in today’s world.

Marion Leeper, from the Fabulation, comments ‘Bringing our festival to Cressing Temple Barns feels like coming home.  Our mission is to host the finest professional performers who will fill the big spaces of the medieval barns, and also to create small and intimate events where anyone can tell a story and have their voice heard, perfect for the small buildings and hidden corners of Cressing Temple.  And we’re planning some surprises for the new site!’

The festival will see the whole site transformed by the extraordinary installations of recycled art from festival artist Amy Wragg.

Jo Norris, from Cressing Temple Barns, says; ‘Cressing Temple Barns are a hidden gem and a perfect place for stories.  We think the storytelling festival is a wonderful match for our space, and we’re looking forward to welcome the East Anglian storytellers to Cressing.’

More details of performers and events will be announced soon, and tickets will be on sale in time for Christmas.
