Camp With Us Onsite - 2025 tickets now on sale!
Walk home at night back through woodland path and silver bridge - your head full of stories, your heart alive with tales...
|
Sleep in a magical place, where faerie rings grow in the meadow, and a ploughshare circles in the wind... Listen to the owls as you doze... a pocket of calm at the centre of Stowmarket...
|
You'll have access to the whole of the Museum's outdoor exhibits out of hours... the mill, water-pump, chapel, animal enclosures, quiet lanes and woodland walks. Stroll the site near dawn to a glorious burst of birdsong...
|
Our top recommendation!
Immerse yourself in the festival, have that third beer without worrying, make new friends around the campfire while looking at the stars and listening to the owls hooting. It's a rare opportunity to camp onsite and to range over the beautiful grounds of the Food Museum out of hours and to hear the glorious dawn chorus.
Let us know in advance if you have access needs.

Times – entry from 1200 Friday 30th May, last entry time at gate 9pm
We do need to charge a fee for camping. This is to offset the cost of providing extra toilets, washing facilities, showers and cleaning during the weekend of the festival.
Times – entry from 1200 to 2100 on Friday 30th May (if you break down, get lost or are unavoidably delayed, call us on the number we'll give you in an email just before the festival)
Offsite by 1700 (5pm) absolute latest Sunday 19th May
To access the camping field, please arrive through the gate at the back of the Museum - directions will be in the email just before the festival. Between 12.00 and 21.00 on Friday, there will be someone there to welcome you and let you in: if you are arriving after this, please let us know your arrival time in advance, and ten minutes beforehand text or phone us on the number we'll give you in an email just before the festival.
Please follow the stewards’ instructions about where and how to unload and pitch your tent: we are lucky to be able to camp in the wonderful museum grounds and need to make sure we look after the land. On site there is a 5 MPH speed limit. Vehicles are not to be moved once parked, until the end of the festival, except in an emergency. We want to minimise disruption to local residents and also preserve the fragile grass on the camping meadow from being chewed up by vehicles especially in the current wet weather.
Campervans - Drive to the Museum’s back gates, right at the end of Lockington Road. When you arrive, or just before, phone or text the numbers you will have been given and someone will come and let you in and show you where to park your van.
Tents: To be updated for 2025. Tent campers may need to park in the car park in front of the Museum (Illife Way) where we will ensure lots of help to get you to the camping field and pitched up.
We hope that the following will apply as it has before but need to confirm: Drive to the back gates as above. Campers can drive along the path to unload their tents and then park in the nearby carpark.
There will be limited parking on site, on a basis of first come first served; later arrivals may be asked to park in the public car park at the front of the Museum
.
Disabled access If you have access needs of any kind, please let us know in advance on info@eastanglianstorytellingfestival.co.uk, to help us provide for your needs. Accessible camping will be next to a hard surface where cars can park, and also within reach of the accessible toilets. Festival volunteers will be able to help you put up your tent and get settled.
Amenities
There are toilets, showers, and a drinking water tap on the field, and daytime access to sinks for washing up in the nearby farm barn.
No naked flames are allowed on the campsite, because of the extreme risk of fire to the ancient buildings surrounding us, but there will be a designated cooking area in the field – flames will need to be off the ground. Breakfast will be available from 8.30 from the hatch at the Feast Café.
Leaving the festival
All campers are asked to be off-site by 5.00 on Sunday at the latest. There will be stewards from 4.00-5.00 to help you pack up and leave. If there is an emergency and you need to leave earlier, please talk to the steward on duty. The gates open automatically from the inside – you may need to drive quite close
Please!
-take your rubbish home with you
-use the permitted locations for the Firepit & BBQs, keep all flames off the ground and be safe!
-Be a good neighbour - keep noise after 10pm to a minimum for fellow campers and for residents near the site
We hope you enjoy the chance to camp in a beautiful meadow and experience the natural spaces of the Museum at night.

Other Options
There are lots of properties for rent on the Heart of Suffolk website, many just a short walk from the festival site.
To look for local B&Bs you can go onto the Visit Suffolk website. They have lots of accommodation but unfortunately their search doesn’t work by postcode so you should select Stowmarket.
There are several Travelodges and hotels nearby, the closest is 2 miles away.
If you go onto AirBnb you can do a search by postcode (IP14 1DE). If you use Booking.com , Trivago or similar, key in Stowmarket as the location.
