Karin Lundengård is that rare thing, a researcher in computational biology who happens to be an accomplished storyteller, with a repertoire ranging from personal memories, to old Viking myths and folklore, and weird tidbits from the deeper levels of Wikipedia. She believes the first training a scientist should get is in the arts, because at its core, scientific research should be helping us to build pathways into new worlds we’d never imagined. In this brand new commission, she considers how memory can carry beyond your own lifetime and how to craft a new myth carrying warnings of the nuclear dangers our civilisation has stored deep underground. |

I am a professional storyteller who performs at many different venues from bars and small fringe venues to arts centres, festivals, and schools, as well as online. I tell stories from Folklore, Myth and Legend mixed with real people. During Covid I brought together a group of storytellers who tell stories live on zoom every month. The storytellers have come from different parts of the UK and the world. I have recently completed a project supported by the Arts Council and South Somerset District Council. This used stories embedded in QR codes to create a story trail. Sarah will be bringing us story walking in the fabulous grounds! https://sarahlloydwinderstoryteller.com/ |
As part of our festival outreach, VI storyteller Tony Finn will visit groups county-wide for people of all ages with visual impairments, co-ordinated by Suffolk Sight, https://www.suffolksight.org.uk He will talk to them about his life as a storyteller registered blind, tell some stories, and show how he does not let disability stand in the way of a rich and fulfilling life, engaging with the community around him.
The first thing most people notice about Tony Finn is the great stories he tells – funny, engaging, thought-provoking repertoire of tall stories, traditional stories and personal anecdotes. The second thing would have to be Yoda, Tony’s much loved dog, like Tony a regular visitor at the East Anglian Storytelling Festival. The fact that Tony is registered blind often comes way down the list. In this session he might explain how young Jack got the better of a Giant, what happened when Albert met the Lion, or how the Nightingale got its song. He will also talk about how visual impairment has been no barrier to his enjoyment of a good story, and the pitfalls and pleasures of negotiating the life of a sight-impaired storyteller |

Chris began telling stories to audiences some 5 years ago, but considers that he's been storytelling in his personal and professional life since his teens. He likes to tell tales he feels he can bring his love of language to but also feel rooted in. However, this can take many forms - from local legends set in the geography of his own East Anglia, to the cultural familiarity of Anglo Saxon sagas and on to the enduring bond of father and son just as important in Daedalus and Icarus as it is in Chris's own family life. He has told the saga of Wayland at the EASF festival of 2018 as well as other Suffolk and Essex events, schools and story circles. |

A year ago CB Jackson accidentally dropped into a storytelling event. Over the course of an evening listening to two extraordinary storytellers, he realised that he actually already told stories himself – and what’s more it was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. A trip to the East Anglian Storytelling Festival 2023, an apprenticeship at Bards Aloud club in Ipswich, and a year later, Jackson is one of our festival new voices, with a definitely new and distinctive style.

The cockleshell has a distinctive blue tint due to the mud on the Norfolk coast. Stookey Blue is a fun, vibrant folk band, performing music or playing for ceilidhs across East Anglia, We love the folk music of the UK and you'll hear us play a mix of Irish, Scottish and English music, with the occasional European tune. Like a good coffee? Like a good story? Then why not both at once!
Word in Your Ear is a coffee van with a difference. Imagine sitting outside with a hot drink, lost in an immersive audio experience. Not only can you sup a tea, hot chocolate or a barista coffee, from a fantastic artisan Cumbrian bean roasters but you can stick on a pair of headsets and immerse yourself in stories and soundscapes. During the pandemic Nick became fascinated by how to tell stories online and has been building a library of recordings that sit as easy on the ear as a flat-white on the tongue. The headsets used can switch between multiple channels, so if you’re all storied out then at the touch of the button you could be listening to the ‘Place of the Day’ finding yourself surrounded by curlews on the beach, or deep in the woods on a windy day, or hearing the skylark untangle it’s golden thread of song above the fields. Our headliner in 2021, we are delighted to welcome Nick Hennessey back to our festival! |

Danegeld North West Morris |
Green Dragon Morris was formed in 1993 with a view to creating a mixed group of men and women dancers with a different style to the other established West Suffolk sides. Experienced and totally novice dancers struggled with rants, capers and sticking whilst experimenting with various styles and dances. We were smiling and laughing most during the North West and Border dances so we decided to combine those styles plus anything else that takes our fancy.. As with all traditions we have moved on from those beginnings and have created and borrowed dances from other sides .. ABOUT | greendragonmorris |
